Physician (Dermatology) Section Chief
Job Description
Become a part of our organization’s Specialty Medicine Service Line. Reporting directly to the Chief of Specialty Medicine and indirectly to the Chief of Medicine, the Chief of Dermatology will offer consultation services and follow-up care for patients with medical sub-specialty needs in both inpatient and outpatient environments.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe Chief of Dermatology will undertake the following tasks:
- Lead and manage a diverse team of dermatology professionals, ensuring comprehensive care that includes diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, and patient education for dermatological conditions in various settings.
- Accurately document patient interactions and code visits in a timely manner.
- Assess, triage, and prioritize dermatology consultation requests to guarantee prompt patient care.
- Conduct excisional or diagnostic skin biopsies and perform minor skin surgeries.
- Review images from the store-and-forward program to provide treatment recommendations or assess the urgency of in-person evaluations.
- Oversee dermatology section providers, including conducting performance reviews and ensuring compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
- Ensure the dermatology section and clinics operate efficiently.
- Support the clinical, educational, and research objectives of the organization.
- Engage in multidisciplinary teams, workgroups, and committees for process improvement as needed.
- Coordinate care for patients requiring services not available at our facility, such as MOHS surgery, at VA or non-VA referral centers.
- Complete continuing medical education (CME) as necessary to maintain dermatology competency, medical licensure, and board certification.
- Timely completion of HIPAA, Privacy and Security, and other mandatory training.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Must be a U.S. citizen; non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens are unavailable, in accordance with VA policy.
- Possess a Doctor of Medicine degree or an equivalent qualification from an accredited institution recognized by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
- Hold a current, unrestricted medical or surgical license in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
- Completed residency training in an accredited core specialty program approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, leading to board certification eligibility.
- Board certified or eligible in Dermatology.
- Meet the eligibility criteria for a faculty appointment in the Department of Internal Medicine at a recognized medical center based on qualifications and experience.
