Position OverviewWe are in search of a board-certified or board-eligible pediatric hematologist/oncologist who will also take on the role of a clinical faculty member at the assistant or associate professor level. The ideal candidate will have a strong clinical focus and experience in treating children and adolescents who are undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. This role will allocate at least 50% of clinical time to bone marrow transplant activities. The distribution of professional responsibilities will be as follows: 50% dedicated to clinical transplant, 30% to clinical hematology and/or oncology based on the candidate's interests, and 20% for non-clinical duties.
Our organization is a teaching hospital with an accredited Hematology/Oncology fellowship training program and a partnership with a local medical school.
Programs and ServicesThe Showers Family Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at our facility offers a variety of programs, including hematology, oncology, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, a state-funded sickle cell initiative, and a regional center for hemostasis and thrombosis. Hematology/Oncology services are available at our main hospital in Akron, our Beeghly campus in Boardman, Ohio, and three satellite clinics across the region. Our Hematology/Oncology team consists of eleven faculty members, seventeen advanced practice providers, and fellows.
Each year, the center serves approximately 90 new oncology patients, 15 stem cell/marrow transplant patients, 160 sickle cell patients, and 540 patients with bleeding disorders. The staff also manages around 12,000 patient encounters annually. Our organization is a member of the Children’s Oncology Group, hosts a pediatric transplant center recognized by the National Marrow Donor Program, and is one of only nine pediatric cancer centers in the nation accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer as a Pediatric Cancer Hospital.
This position qualifies as a 501(c)(3) site, making it eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness through the Federal government.
