Description & RequirementsCarolinas Medical Center (CMC) serves as the primary academic medical facility for our organization in Charlotte and acts as the quaternary referral center for the Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute. With 874 beds, CMC is a tertiary and quaternary care hospital that delivers top-tier heart and vascular services throughout the Carolinas, catering to complex and high-acuity cardiovascular patients. A significant new 12-story advanced care facility is set to open in spring 2027, featuring 448 patient rooms, 38 operating rooms, 16 procedure rooms, and a new emergency department. CMC is the only Level I Trauma Center in the region and also functions as a transplant center for heart, kidney, pancreas, and liver.
As one of North Carolina's five Academic Medical Center teaching hospitals, CMC provides residency training for over 200 physicians across 15 specialties and serves as a regional campus for the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
The heart and vascular services at CMC encompass a wide range of specialties, including comprehensive electrophysiology, advanced heart failure management, interventional cardiology, cardiac surgery, and mechanical circulatory support. The facility is home to the only heart transplant program and pediatric heart surgery program in the region, making it a vital center for both complex adult and congenital cardiac care.

About the Structural Heart Imaging Team
- Four dedicated intraprocedural imagers and two experienced clinic-based physicians integrated within our multidisciplinary valve clinic.
- A high-volume structural heart program with annual procedures exceeding 450 TAVR, over 70 mitral interventions, more than 20 tricuspid interventions, and 300+ left atrial appendage occlusions.
- Active participation in significant clinical trials assessing structural heart therapies, with ample opportunities for imaging-focused research in echocardiography, cardiac CT, and cardiac MRI.
- State-of-the-art Philips echo equipment, Siemens Alpha Photon CT scanner, and Siemens 3T and 1.5T cardiac MRIs.
- Nine weekends annually (Saturday/Sunday).
- Approximately 2-3 weeknight calls per month.
- 2-3 imaging days (including 1 day in the operating room).
- 1-2 clinic days (involving cardiology clinic and participation in valve center clinic).
- Protected administrative time for directorship responsibilities.
- Board Eligible/Board Certified in Cardiovascular Disease.
- Board Eligible/Board Certified in Echocardiography (Level III required).
- Board Eligible/Board Certified in Cardiac CT and/or Cardiac MRI.
- A minimum of 3 years of practice experience post-fellowship is required.
- Advanced training in intraprocedural echocardiography (through an advanced imaging fellowship or over 2 years of experience in transcatheter mitral/tricuspid valve interventions and left atrial appendage occlusion procedures).
- Experience in the pre- and peri-operative management of patients with valvular heart disease.
- Dedication to active involvement in a multidisciplinary heart team, synthesizing and presenting multi-modality imaging data.
