Location: Audie L. Murphy VA Medical Center – South Texas Veterans Health Care System, San Antonio, TX

About the Role
Become a vital member of the Spinal Cord Injury/Disorder Service (SCI/D) team at the South Texas VA, where you will deliver exceptional care to Veterans affected by spinal cord injuries and disorders. This position offers a distinctive chance to engage in a collaborative, multidisciplinary setting dedicated to rehabilitation and neuromedicine.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver thorough outpatient care for patients with SCI/D.
  • Conduct comprehensive history and physical examinations, EMG, injections, and various procedures.
  • Work in partnership with Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Neuropsychology, and other specialties.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in CPRS and adhere to national standards.
  • Inform patients and their families about treatment options and rehabilitation techniques.
  • Engage in performance improvement initiatives and optional clinical research.
  • Participate in on-call duties, including weekend coverage for inpatient rehabilitation.

Work Environment

  • Setting: Mainly outpatient with occasional inpatient consultations.
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM (No regular nights or weekends, except for rotational on-call duties).
  • Team: Collaborate with 4 physicians, nursing staff, social workers, pharmacists, and therapists.
  • Patient Population: Approximately 600 Veterans registered in the SCI/D program.

Qualifications

Required:

  • MD or DO degree.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation or Neurology.

Preferred:

  • Experience in neurorehabilitation (SCI/D).
  • Interest in pain management, spinal cord medicine, and musculoskeletal medicine.

Compensation & Incentives

  • Salary Range: $240,000–$300,000.
  • Competitive salary aligned with the VA Physician Pay Table.
  • Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP): Up to $40,000 annually for 5 years (maximum $200,000) tax-free.
