Salary negotiations may be possible for candidates who are entering Federal service for the first time. It is important to note that medical malpractice liability insurance is not necessary for federal civilian healthcare providers, as they are protected under the Federal Tort Claims Act (28 U.S.C. § 1346(b)) while performing their job duties.

- Adhere to hospital policies and regulations, ensuring patient access to appropriate medical care and referrals to other healthcare providers.
- Deliver direct patient care within a Medical Treatment Facility.
- Provide consultative opinions to fellow physicians and healthcare staff, overseeing care provided by non-physicians.
- Maintain health and clinical records in compliance with current regulations and standards.
- Determine when to seek advice and guidance as necessary.

To qualify, candidates must meet the educational and experiential criteria outlined below. Experience includes both paid and unpaid work, such as volunteer roles through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, community, student, social). All qualifying experience, including volunteer work, will be considered. Your resume should clearly detail your relevant experience; if qualifying through education, transcripts will be required as part of your application.
Basic Requirements for Family Practice Physician:
- Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from an accredited institution in the U.S. or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by recognized bodies such as the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association or the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation. For foreign medical degrees, equivalency must be demonstrated through permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
- Licensure: Candidates must hold a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a U.S. state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory.
- Graduate Training: Following the attainment of a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, candidates must have at least one year of supervised clinical experience, such as a one-year internship or the first year of a residency program in an accredited institution.
- Residency Training: Applicants must have successfully completed an accredited residency in Family Medicine, along with equivalent experience and training totaling at least four years. Experience cannot substitute for the required residency training.
