Become a part of our team at the Department of Veterans VA Medical Center in San Francisco, CA, as a Part-Time Physician - Psychiatrist!

The Medical Director of the Drug and Alcohol Treatment Clinic (DAT) oversees psychopharmacological services for patients within the DAT Clinic. This clinic operates as a group-based program, offering care coordination and pharmacotherapy for substance use disorders, whether or not accompanied by mental health issues. Additionally, this role supports the Veterans Justice Outreach initiative.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Engage in a clinical program focused on patient outcome metrics.
  • Practice within the limits of assigned privileges.
  • Adhere to the bylaws, rules, and regulations of the facility and agency.
  • Fulfill medical staff criteria for initial and ongoing appointments, including continuing medical education (CME).
  • Follow established record-keeping protocols in line with relevant rules and regulations.
  • Comply with information security policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate effectively with patients, families, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in educational activities and scheduled meetings within the Medical Service.
  • Engage in assigned Peer Reviews and uphold quality assurance standards.
  • Complete all required health record reviews and peer evaluations within specified deadlines.

The Medical Director of the Drug and Alcohol Treatment Clinic (DAT) is tasked with managing psychopharmacological clinics for patients served in the DAT Clinic.

  • Completion of an Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship is mandatory.

The DAT program is designed to provide coordinated care and pharmacotherapy for substance use disorders, with or without co-occurring mental health conditions, while also supporting the Veterans Justice Outreach program.

  • A Forensic Fellowship is also required.

As a result of our affiliation with the University of California San Francisco, Board Certification is a prerequisite.

  • Expected Salary Range: Between $300K - $315K (negotiable based on qualifications, credentials, and experience).

  • Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with contributions up to 5% by the organization.
  • Insurance: Comprehensive federal health, vision, dental, term life, and long-term care coverage (many federal insurance options can extend into retirement).
  • Licensure: One full and unrestricted license from any U.S. state or territory.
  • CME: Possible reimbursement of up to $1,000 per year (must be full-time with board certification).
  • Malpractice Coverage: Liability protection with tail coverage included.
  • Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and minimal restrictions on moonlighting.
