Our organization is in search of a compassionate and collaborative physician leader to take on the role of Chief of the Division of Palliative Medicine. About the Division

The Division of Palliative Medicine specializes in hospital-based consultative care aimed at enhancing the quality of life for patients facing serious illnesses. The current interdisciplinary team comprises physicians, nurse practitioners, chaplains, and psychological support, collaborating closely with various specialty services within the hospital.

This program maintains strong partnerships with teams such as geriatrics and other medical subspecialties, actively engaging in the education of residents and medical students through both clinical supervision and didactic instruction.

About the Role

As the Chief of the Division of Palliative Medicine, you will be responsible for overseeing the clinical, academic, and educational objectives of the division while steering the ongoing development of palliative care services throughout the institution.

In collaboration with departmental and health system leadership, the Chief will contribute to shaping the strategic direction for palliative care and enhancing interdisciplinary cooperation to address the needs of patients and families in the region.

In this position, you will:

  • Provide strategic and operational guidance for the Division of Palliative Medicine.

  • Supervise the clinical operations of a hospital-based adult consult service.

  • Enhance and fortify interdisciplinary palliative care services across the health system.

  • Encourage collaboration with specialties such as geriatrics, oncology, critical care, and other medical and surgical disciplines.

  • Support and mentor faculty, nurse practitioners, and members of the interdisciplinary team.

  • Advance the division’s academic mission through the education of medical students and residents.

  • Engage in teaching, supervision, and didactic programs within both undergraduate and graduate medical education.

  • Lead program development, quality improvement initiatives, and scholarly activities.

  • Collaborate with institutional leadership on operational and financial objectives for the program.

Qualifications

  • MD/DO degree or equivalent.

  • Board certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine (or eligibility).

  • Board certification in a primary specialty such as Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or a related field.

  • Proven excellence in clinical care, education, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

  • Previous leadership, program development, or administrative experience is preferred.

  • Eligibility for academic appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level.

  • Eligibility for medical licensure in New York State.
