Job Description

Our organization is a 437-bed teaching hospital located about 40 miles from New York City, in West Islip, Long Island. This area is rich in culture and history, offering a wide range of attractions and activities. Families can take advantage of excellent school districts and various recreational options. Long Island boasts professional sports, beautiful beaches, water activities, museums, golf, hunting, camping, ice skating, cross-country skiing, and sledding, ensuring there’s something for everyone throughout the year. Our hospital employs nearly 900 physicians and operates as a Level II Pediatric Trauma Center accredited by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma, serving approximately 950,000 patients annually along the south shore of Long Island.

We provide care to the largest pediatric population on the South Shore of Long Island. Our Pediatric Emergency Department, staffed by pediatricians and fellowship-trained pediatric emergency medicine specialists, handles over 20,000 visits each year. We are proud to offer Suffolk County's only freestanding Center for Pediatric Specialty Care, with additional satellite centers in Nassau County and Eastern Long Island. Our children's program encompasses services from our Level III Neonatology Unit for the tiniest patients through to adulthood. The Pediatric Specialty Center features a comprehensive range of pediatric specialists, including those in gastroenterology, neurology, neurosurgery, endocrinology, genetics, pulmonology, hematology, infectious diseases, developmental care, and nephrology. The hospital also supports a four-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), a sixteen-bed Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and a dedicated pediatric unit. Our Department of Pediatrics is staffed 24/7 by in-house pediatric hospitalists, neonatologists, and three pediatric intensivists, along with seven pediatric anesthesiologists and support from pediatric radiologists and pathologists. Additionally, we have a separate Pediatric Emergency Department that operates around the clock with physicians trained specifically in pediatric emergency medicine.

Alongside our extensive pediatric specialists and surgical teams, we also manage general pediatric outpatient practices. Our organization is committed to training residents through an accredited pediatric residency program and fellows in pediatric emergency medicine, fostering a collaborative environment focused on evidence-based practices, continuous learning, and high-quality care. As a vital member of our team, you will oversee and mentor residents during their rotations in pediatric surgery.

Our facility is recognized as an American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (ACSCoT) Level II Pediatric Trauma Center, a Level I Adult Trauma Center, and a Joint Commission accredited Comprehensive Stroke Center. We are also designated as a Bariatric Center of Excellence and an ACS Commission on Cancer accredited hospital with a dedicated Cancer Institute. Our nursing team is among the top 8% of hospitals nationwide to achieve ANCC Magnet Recognition®, reflecting the highest standards in nursing and interdisciplinary collaboration. We support seven closed intensive care units, including a cardiothoracic ICU, cardiac care unit, neuroscience ICU, pediatric ICU, neonatal ICU, surgical ICU, and medical ICU. Our open-heart program, The Saint Francis Heart Center, is also part of our offerings. We have residency programs in emergency medicine, family practice, podiatry, pediatrics, and obstetrics and gynecology. Recently, we completed a significant modernization project, unveiling a new six-floor patient care pavilion and pediatric emergency department in December 2025. Our commitment to excellence is built on informed choices and empowered leadership, fostering a team dedicated to evidence-based practices, ongoing education, and exceptional care.

We are currently looking for a board-certified, board-eligible, or fellowship-trained pediatric surgeon to join our team. This is a remarkable opportunity to become part of a collaborative, patient-centered healthcare organization with a longstanding commitment to community care. The pediatric surgeon will be fully integrated into the Department of Surgery within the Division of Pediatric Surgery.

We provide a competitive salary, a vibrant work environment that promotes a healthy work-life balance, and a comprehensive benefits package.

Salary Range: $532,411 - $650,000

This range is a good faith estimate; actual compensation will depend on various factors, including education, training, skills, licensure, certification, competencies, and relevant experience. The listed salary range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, or other forms of compensation that may apply, nor does it account for the value of benefits.

At our organization, we prioritize a people-first approach. In addition to the estimated base salary, we offer generous benefits packages, tuition assistance, a defined benefit pension plan, and a culture that encourages professional and educational growth.
