Become a part of our team as the Chief of Gynecology at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Palo Alto, CA!

The selected candidate will oversee comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic care in general gynecology. Responsibilities include:

  • Medical management of abnormal bleeding, including postmenopausal cases.
  • Treatment of sexually transmitted infections.
  • Contraceptive counseling and early pregnancy assessments.
  • Infertility evaluations and menopause symptom management.
  • Assessment and treatment of urinary incontinence, pelvic pain, and sexual dysfunction.

Procedures performed will encompass:

  • Removal of premalignant vulvar lesions.
  • Treatment of Bartholin cysts.
  • Repair of cystocele and rectocele.
  • Management of cervical dysplasia.
  • Insertion and removal of long-acting contraceptive devices (IUDs and implants).

Surgical operations will include:

  • Diagnostic and operative hysteroscopy.
  • Dilation and curettage.
  • Diagnostic laparoscopy.
  • Salpingectomy for ectopic pregnancy or sterilization.
  • Ovarian cyst removal/oophorectomy, myomectomy, and hysterectomy.

The incumbent will evaluate gynecology patients in the clinic and provide consultation services to general medicine physicians, mid-level providers, and surgeons in various settings, including the operating room and emergency department. Supervision of trainees, including medical students, residents, and fellows, will also be part of the role. On-call services will be provided as needed, following the established on-call schedule. Adherence to safety, environmental, and infection control protocols is essential. The incumbent will also guide other healthcare team members on preventive medicine initiatives and relevant medical functions.

Responsibilities will also include:

  • Maintaining clinical activity statistics and conducting quality management studies as required.
  • Managing gynecologic services across inpatient, outpatient, and operating room settings.
  • Overseeing gynecology processes to ensure timely access to services and monitoring wait times.
  • Developing and writing policies and procedures specific to gynecology services.
  • Participating in quality improvement initiatives, including peer reviews.
  • Directing quality assurance activities for the Gynecology Section.
  • Engaging in educational conferences and outreach efforts.

    Expected Salary Range: Between $200K and $400K (negotiable based on qualifications, credentials, and experience).

    • Work Schedule: Full-time, with hours determined by the supervisor.
    • Education Debt Reduction Program: Authorized for student loan repayment.
    • Compensation: Competitive salary, annual performance bonuses, and regular salary increases.
    • Paid Time Off: 50-55 days annually, including 26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays, and up to 5 days for CME.
    • Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5-year vesting) and federal 401K with contributions up to 5% by the organization.
    • Insurance: Comprehensive federal health, vision, dental, term life, and long-term care coverage (many plans can be carried into retirement).
    • Licensure: One full and unrestricted license from any U.S. state or territory.
    • CME: Possible reimbursement of up to $1,000 per year (must be full-time with board certification).
    • Malpractice: Liability protection with tail coverage provided at no cost.
    • Contract: No physician employment contract and minimal restrictions on moonlighting.
