Join Our Team in Specialty Medicine

We invite you to become a part of our organization’s Specialty Medicine Service Line. Reporting directly to the Chief of Specialty Medicine and indirectly to the Chief of Medicine, the Chief of the Dermatology Section will offer consultation services and follow-up care for patients with medical sub-specialty needs in both inpatient and outpatient environments.

Key Responsibilities

The Dermatology Section Chief will undertake the following tasks:

  • Lead and manage a diverse team of dermatology professionals, delivering comprehensive care that includes diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, and patient education for dermatological conditions in various settings.
  • Accurately document patient interactions and ensure timely coding of visits.
  • Evaluate, triage, and prioritize dermatology consultation requests to facilitate prompt patient care.
  • Conduct excisional or diagnostic skin biopsies and perform minor surgical procedures on the skin.
  • Review images from the store-and-forward program to provide treatment recommendations or assess the urgency for in-person evaluations.
  • Oversee dermatology section providers, including conducting performance reviews and evaluations, while ensuring adherence to organizational policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the dermatology section and clinics operate efficiently.
  • Promote the clinical, educational, and research objectives of our organization.
  • Engage in multidisciplinary teams, workgroups, and committees focused on process improvement as needed.
  • Coordinate care for patients requiring services unavailable at our facility, such as MOHS surgery, at VA or non-VA referral centers.
  • Complete continuing medical education (CME) as necessary to maintain dermatology competency, medical licensure, and board certification.
  • Timely completion of HIPAA, Privacy and Security, and other mandatory training.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
  • Must be a citizen of the United States; non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited in accordance with our policies.
  • Possess a Doctor of Medicine degree or an equivalent qualification from an accredited institution recognized by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Hold a current, unrestricted medical or surgical license in a U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completed residency training in an accredited core specialty program approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Board certified or eligible in Dermatology.
  • Must meet the qualifications for a faculty appointment in the Department of Internal Medicine at an affiliated medical center based on experience and qualifications.
